Chelsea Carey Announced as Skip of Team Jennifer Jones

(WINNIPEG, MB) – With curling legend Jennifer Jones announcing her retirement from four person team curling last month the team of Lauren Lenentine, Emily Zacharias and Karlee Burgess needed to find a skip to lead the 4th ranked women’s curling team in the world for the next two years.

After an extensive search and interview process the team has announced that Chelsea Carey has been selected to skip the team for the next two years as they continue to push towards their goal of becoming Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chelsea Carey as the new skip of our team and are so excited for the next couple of years to continue the momentum we had with Jennifer Jones,” said Lauren Lenentine, lead for the team. “We learned so much from Jennifer these last two years and feel that Chelsea will give us that similar edge with her experiencing and shot-making that the transition will be seamless – especially after the success we had with Chelsea at different times throughout the season.”

Carey is a two-time Scotties Champion, two-time Grand Slam of Curling event champion and impressed the current team during her stint as spare for Jennifer Jones on multiple occasions this past season.

“I’m absolutely thrilled for this opportunity to play alongside Lauren, Emily and Karlee – three of the great young stars of our game,” said Carey. “They are so fun to play with and I was so impressed with their approach to each and every game when I played with them. I think we will a very strong team and continue what they built with Jennifer the last couple of years.”

The new Team Chelsea Carey will start the season as the 4th ranked curling team in the world with their 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts berth already secured thanks to their 2nd consecutive runner-up finish.
