[CALEDON, ONT.] – TSN personality Jeff O’Neill and Canadian comedian and actor Gerry Dee have been selected as participants for The Face-off, TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley’s one-day celebrity competition on June 30 between teams captained by TSN host James Duthie and Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas.

Known to listeners and viewers as the ‘O-Dog,’ O’Neill will compete alongside Duthie, while Dee, the star of the hit series Mr. D and CBC’s Family Feud Canada, will team up with Dubas in the charity match held on the Hoot course, where each player will play for more than $60,000 in donations made by TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley and the Humeniuk Foundation.

O’Neill will compete for the Down Syndrome Association of York Region, which promotes inclusiveness and awareness for children with Down Syndrome, while Dee will play for KidSport Ontario, a Canadian non-profit organization that provides support to under-resourced children and youth 18 years of age and under by removing financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.

“I’m excited to get on the course with James, Kyle and Gerry and have a ton of fun competing for some great causes. This is going to be a great match with hopefully some good golf shots and definitely some colourful banter, and I can’t wait to get to TPC Toronto next week,” said O’Neill, whose selection was announced Tuesday night on TSN 1050’s OverDrive.

In response to O’Neill’s selection, Team Dubas drafted Dee, a lifelong competitive golfer who teed it up at TPC Toronto last year in the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada’s Osprey Valley Open presented by Votorantim Cimentos – CBM Aggregates.

“Playing with Kyle against Jeff and James would be fun under any circumstances, but to have the chance to play this kind of match and support some wonderful charities is an outstanding opportunity,” said Dee. “I had a great time playing at TPC Toronto last summer on the Mackenzie Tour, and hopefully these guys don’t hit it 50 yards past me and make every single putt like they did.”

“After James selected Jeff O’Neill with the first overall selection, it was clear to that we required someone who could combine golf prowess with the ability to throw Team Duthie off their game leading up to and during the event,” said Dubas. “It was clear, given that criteria that there was just one person who could fill that role – and it is most certainly Gerry Dee.”

A total of $60,000 will be donated by TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley and the Humeniuk Foundation to the four charitable organizations selected. Following an initial donation of $10,000 to each charity, the teams will compete in an 18-hole match consisting of six holes of net best-ball, six holes of alternate shot and six holes of scramble, with each player on the winning team earning an additional $5,000 donation to their charity. Four on-course competitions worth $2,500 will also be on the line for each player.

In addition to O’Neill competing for the Down Syndrome Association of York Region and Dee playing on behalf of KidSport, Dubas will be playing for the You Can Play Project, which works to ensure the safety and inclusion of all LGBTQ+ people in sports, including athletes, coaches, staff and fans, while Duthie will be competing for The Frontline Fund, which represents Canadian hospital foundations dealing with COVID-19 all across the country and helps to meet the highest-priority needs of hospitals across Canada.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have friends like James, Jeff, Kyle and Gerry to lend their time and help raise awareness for these great organizations.  Our goal with these donations is to shine a light on the important work they do to support our communities in tough times, and we are extremely excited for The Face-off to begin next week,” said TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley President Chris Humeniuk.

The Face-off will be covered live on social media and captured for a feature-length video to be shared shortly after the competition. To help provided an enhanced viewer experience, SCOREGolf Editor Jason Logan and golf journalist Adam Stanley will be providing updates and interviews as part of the event coverage, which can be found on all of TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley’s social media channels on June 30.
