Team Epping Kicks Off Brier with Feature Game on Opening Night
CALGARY (March 5, 2021) – After a safe and successful Scotties Tournament of Hearts it’s now time for the curling world to turn their attention to the Tim Horton’s Brier starting tonight that will feature 18 of the best men’s teams in the country vying for the historic title.
The field was expanded to 18 teams for this year only to accommodate teams that didn’t get an opportunity to compete for their provincial or territorial championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams have been separated into two pools of nine, and seeded based on their final standing in the 2019-20 Canadian Team Ranking System.
Team Epping enters the event as the #2 ranked team in the world and facing what many feel is the strongest Brier field ever. They will kick-off the Brier as the opening night feature game on TSN at 8:30PM ET against the defending champions from Team Gushue.
“Looking at all the teams invited this year there is no question this is one of the toughest fields ever but that’s what makes it that much more fun,” said skip John Epping. “We are so thankful for the opportunity to play and so thankful to all of our team sponsors that supported us all year round during a tough year and we hope to make them proud all week.”
Epping and his team from the Leaside Curling Club in Toronto were the home province at last year’s Brier in Kingston and gave it a valiant run but ultimately came up short of the playoffs in the second tiebreaker.
