TPC Toronto plays host to both U.S. Open and RBC Canadian Open Qualifiers

CALEDON, ONT. — It was a a busy week for TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley as they played host to both the US Open and RBC Canadian Open regional qualifiers.

U.S. Open Local Qualifier

Canada’s only U.S. Open Men’s local qualifier is took place on the North Course on Monday, May 13. 78 competitors were vying for five spots in the next stage of U.S. Open 2019 qualification.

To qualify for the 119^th U.S. Open, golfers must advance through a local qualifying event, such as the one held at TPC Toronto. There are 114 local qualifying events in total, which are being held between May 2 and May 18. Overall, 8,602 competitors will attempt to punch their ticket to this prestigious open field tournament.

Sebastian Szirmak fired a 5-under-par 67 on Monday to win medalist honours.

RBC Canadian Open Regional Qualifier

The second RBC Canadian Open regional qualifier teed off on Thursday, May 16 at TPC Toronto. 144 players were vying for 22 spots in the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifier at Heron Point Golf Links in Alberton, Ont. on Monday, June 3.

The top 15% of finishers at each regional qualifier are eligible to complete at Final Qualifying on June 3. As there were more than 100 competitors in the field at TPC Toronto, the low qualifier received an exemption directly into the RBC Canadian Open field. Ancaster, Ont. native, Michael Blair, put together an impressive 8-under-par 64 to earn a direct exemption into the 2019 RBC Canadian Open taking place at Hamilton Golf & Country Club, June 3-9.
